Indie spinoff of Tiberian Sun

Tiberian Sun: Reborn is a free-to-play action game developed by the W3D Hub game. This is a third-person shooter set in the future. In an alternate 2034, the Second Tiberium War is nearing its end. However, a weapon of mass destruction is out on the loose and could leave the Earth’s atmosphere toxic to everyone. Play as a soldier under the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) or from the remnant of the Brotherhood of Nod.

Tiberian Sun: Reborn combines shooting and real-time strategy elements to give a new spin to Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Other games in the franchise include Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight.

Take control of the Tacitus

The premise of Tiberian Sun: Reborn revolves around taking control of Tacitus, an alien databank that could supposedly save the world, or doom it, depending on who completes it. This data storage device of unknown age and origin has been referenced in the Tiberium Wars series, such as in Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. This makes this standalone game fit in with the established lore.

Unlike most Command and Conquer games, which are played on top-view RTS, this game is more of a third-person shooter. You play as a soldier on either side, tasked with damaging enemy structures and eliminating units. Doing so would grant you money, which you could use with unlocking upgrades or purchasing vehicles. The units available here are lifted from Tiberian Sun and Firestorm, granting the same strategic advantages and disadvantages.

Unlike the other W3D game, Red Alert: A Path Beyond, this can be played in single-player. Only it has the same game mode, whether solo or with friends, there’s no solo campaign for individual players to enjoy. Also, since its initial release in 2013, there haven’t been any visual upgrades, keeping the same dated look as the C&C games of the period.

A refreshing spin on Tiberian Sun

Fans of the classic strategy game will definitely enjoy Tiberian Sun: Reborn. It is built on a premise that fits perfectly with the lore of the Tiberium Wars. More importantly, it switches up from full RTS to one that is more immersive, thanks to its third-person shooting perspective. Lastly, the units are based off the original games, adding a strategic aspect to the game. Recommended.
